4-Dukat diverse Jahrgänge
13.76 g · 986
The four-ducat coin is a gold coin that was once widely used as currency across Europe. Ducats were first minted in Venice in 1284. Austria began issuing gold ducats in the 16th century, and they remained legal tender until 1858.
Modern restrikes bear the date 1915, as does this coin. Gold with a fineness of 986 parts per thousand is known as ducat gold. This was an exceptionally high level of purity for a gold coin in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The obverse features Emperor Franz Joseph I wearing a laurel wreath. The reverse shows the crowned Habsburg double-headed eagle.
